Never enough time, never a dull moment, always busy. It seems like these are phrases that I use often and with a family of 7 it seems like it's true most of the time. So, to make sure that I'm not lying when I use these phrases I decided to take on a full time job. I was working part time up until this week. I was literally working for my sanity only. I didn't make any money after I paid for daycare and gas, but I was able to keep my sanity. Since my sanity appeared to be fully restored (this always seems to be an illusion) I opted to go to a full time position at a new clinic. Now my new phrases are change is good and I think I can, I think I can. Sure, getting up and going to work every day rather than just three days is a little tougher, but I seem to have an advantage this time. I don't have to take the twins to daycare. As it happened, a friend of the family offered to care for the twins while I work. And to boot, she said she would come to the house. Score!! So far, I am a big fan of this arrangement. And I have made good friends with my crock pot so dinner has been on the table at a decent time every night so far. That might not sound like much to you, but for us, it's huge! It's probably too early to tell if all of this is going to work out, but today, I am blessed.
On a sour note, the twins haven't been feeling well this week. Not a good way for the sitter to start the week, but she's rolling with it and we haven't had to go to the pediatrician yet so I am hoping for the best.
This blog will remain short as I am at work and this is how I have used my lunch hour. Could be worse I guess. Maybe now I will be able to keep this darn thing updated a little better. Until next time, we will keep dancing like no one is watching, love like we've never been hurt, sing like no one is listening and live like it's heaven on earth. Take care all!
Yes, this is my life.....
In the simplest of things this is the life I live and love on a day to day basis. The most important things to me are my family and the friends that are also my family. Of course I don't love everything about my life every day, but I know that I am blessed and I am thankful:)

It's Monday.......
It's quiet here for a Monday morning. Well, as quiet as it can get with the twins doing what they do and the washing machine going. Well, I spoke too soon. As I began to type the twins thought it would be a good time to bring me all the diapers in their diaper drawer. Ashlyn needs A diaper on, but not 47 of them. Grrr! And now she sits here trying to put a diaper on herself and refuses help. This is almost as good as the other day when Ashlyn thought that she could surely put a diaper on Mikayla by herself. And Mikayla was happy to let her do it too. Lol. Oh, that was just a moment in time. I love to watch them explore. They aren't so interested in potty training at this point and the babysitter didn't really think they were ready for potty training so it's on hold. I just hope I haven't missed my window of opportunity. I figure we will revisit this soon.
Samantha and her bff got creative in her bedroom yesterday and decided to put a mural on one wall. Wait, I agreed to a mural on one wall. What I found when I walked in was a mural on one wall of a tree with some flowers and it's pretty. Samantha's bff is quite the artist. And then they took it a step further and put a little something on every wall in her room. Needless to say, that didn't have mom approval, but you give a teen an inch and they take a mile. Shocker!! She said they may have gotten a little too creative. Ya think?? Guess who's going to be putting the primer on and repainting when it's time? It'll be those same 2 creative minds:)
Tristan has informed us that he is now starting on both offense and defense in football. He is the starting center for B team and oh, I am a bad mom, I can't remember the defensive position. Last year he wasn't sure about the whole football thing, but he's really enjoying it this year and I am proud of him. He's coming home with a lot of bumps and bruises which is good for him. I think he's grown another couple inches and I wish he would just stop! He's probably getting pretty close to 6 foot. It's hard to keep him clothed at this rate!!
Sebastian turns 20 tomorrow. 20! Where did the time go? I don't feel all that old until one of the kids have a birthday or better yet, one of my siblings has a birthday. Tomorrow is Sebastian's turn and he's an awesome kid. He had to grow up with Sean and I. No easy feat considering that often times, Sean and I don't act so grown up. Lol. Nonetheless, Sebastian does his very best for what he has been given and I couldn't be prouder of him.
Well, since I have started writing Ashlyn has peed all over the floor, and then brought me a diaper, the dryer has signaled that I have some laundry to fold and Mikayla has dumped a box of toys on the floor. Okay then. Guess it's time to wrap this up. Perhaps we will go for a walk before it gets too hot outside. We had one week of nice weather and now it's supposed to go up the 90's again. Oh happy day. At any rate we will continue to dance like there's no one watching, love like we've never been hurt, sing like no one is listening and live like it's heaven on earth! Take care everyone!!

Back in the Groove
Wow! It's been far too long since I've written a blog. I guess things get busy day to day and then this is one of the things that suffers. What's been going on? Well, let's see. The twins are still working on that pottying thing. They're actually doing okay. They're not all the way there yet, but we are all taking our time with it. I was able to at least bribe them to the potty by giving them treats:) For every time they potty in the potty they get a skittle. That sure did wake them up! What has happened now is even if they just squirt they want a treat. Well, I don't want to discourage them so I give them a treat. Lol! There are days where they get quite a few treats. Makes me think they have more control than what they want me to know. Crazy girls! So, that's all fine and good. I think they'll get it before too long. Frankly, I think they'd rather run around the house naked than anything. Sometimes when they've gone through several pairs of panties I just let them run around naked and before you know it, they're sittin' on the potty. Easy peasy. Probably not the best thing, but I get tired of chasin' them down to put panties on them. And who doesn't prefer to be naked? Lol.
It's school time again and I am glad for that. There are no longer complaints of being bored. Tristan is playing football and is practicing early in the morning due to the extreme heat. He has to be at school at 6:30 on the field, ready to go. He likes it and I'm glad. I didn't like, however, how he was going to practice and not eating all day. Silly boy! His body was done and tired by 3rd period at school. Seems as though we've got that resolved and now we're looking forward to his first football game.
Samantha started high school this year. I gotta say, it's quite a change for her, but she will adjust. I'm not worried. She's taking American Sign Language and loving it. I'm excited about this too because I always wanted to learn sign language and now she can teach me:) She's also taking drill team fundamentals with hopes of trying out for the drill team next year. Really she's just on a mission to learn how to dance. Hey, if she finds her rhythm in this class then I'm all for it. She wasn't born with rhythm but neither was I, so it's okay when she blames me. As she often does. At any rate, she will do great with everything and has had plenty of time for homework since she's been quite the teenager which equals grounding which equals lot of time at home:)
We discovered that Sebastian has gallstones and will need surgery. He had been complaining of chest pain and since we couldn't decipher what was going on we went to the dr and they sent us for a scan and it turns out it's gallstones. Now, he has to see a specialist and then we can move on. No fun for him, but I was his age when I had gallstones and had my gallbladder out. Guess he can blame dear ol mom for that. Sorry son!
Everything else is good. We are never bored even when we think we want to be. The house is usually a mess, there is usually somewhere to go and something to do and there are always kids to tend to! I hope you all are well! Until next time I will dance like there's no one watching, love like I've never been hurt, sing like no one is listening and live like it's heaven on earth. Summer Days
Remember the latest craze? Yeah, it's not going all that well. Um, either they have forgotten the excitement of going potty on the potty or I have forgotten how to train. I'm thinking it's the latter of the two. Nonetheless, I have gone through more diapers in the past few weeks than I care to. The girls pee in the diaper once and after they have peed they say "potty, potty" and so we get the diaper off them and they don't pee on the potty and they would rather run around naked. Well who wouldn't? So we think we'll just let them run around naked for a while or even with some panties on thinking they will tell us or go over to the potty when it's time. Or maybe, you'll just end up stepping in a puddle that one of them has left behind without ever hearing that magic word. "Potty". So, are we potty training? I would like to think that we are, but unfortunately, it's not going very well. I think I need to do some reading up and refresh my memory on what potty training is. I also think the twins should already be trained to but that's just because I think they're exceptionally brilliant. I guess I could be biased. And just to prove that my child is brilliant I have a story I'd like to tell....
Sunday is laundry day around here. It's not unusual to have several laundry baskets with dirty laundry in them. So, this past Sunday Ashlyn pulled all the laundry out of one of the baskets. She was already having naked time and I thought she was being silly in her playing. Not so silly was a couple minutes later when I heard both Ashlyn and Mikayla saying "eeewwww!". When I looked to see what they were saying "ew" to I saw that Ashlyn had pooped in the corner of the laundry basket. Doh! Yep, she's a smart one. Lol.
The teenagers in the house are keeping me on my toes. I have seen the front door of the mall more times than I care to count. I used to fill my summers by going to the swimming pool. What happened to those days? Well, I guess that would be fine if it wasn't over 100 degrees every day and the water wasn't like bath water. I even took all the kids to a city pool one day and figured we'd stay at least a couple of hours. We were a little more than an hour into our stay when the kids wanted to leave because it was too hot. Are you kidding me? We were surrounded by water and they were too hot to hang. Wow. I made them stay for a while anyway because the twins didn't care how hot it was and they were having a good time going down the slides:) It seems as though Ashlyn will be more of a daredevil than Mikayla. Once she figured out how to go down the slide and the path she needed to take to get there and whether or not there would be someone at the end to catch her she was all good. I love to see that excitement in their eyes when they've learned something new.
Samantha gets that excitement about music now. I remember that age and being excited to get a new cassette of your favorite artist. Or better yet, catching the song you like on the radio and having a blank cassette available to record. And then came the double cassette players so you could record from one to another. Oh look how far we have come! Samantha sat down last night and was all giddy because she had new music to add to her Ipod and Sean had recently added a bunch of music to his Itunes and she couldn't wait to put it on her Ipod. Oh, it's the little things. And if you see a happy teenager that's just a good moment altogether.
I asked Tristan the other day if he was ready for school. "No". He doesn't like school. He might not be ready for it, but I sure am. At least I won't get that look that says "I'm bored" anymore. Tristan gets excited about sports. He loves his baseball and is now learning to play golf. All good. Football comes with fall so he will be occupied and I love that!
I was the phone with my girlfriend the other night and then had to switch calls for another sort of emergency. I told my girlfriend I would call her back. A few hours later she texted me and said that must have been one looooong call. No, the call was short. However, I had to field phone calls, make dinner, give the twins a bath, put the twins in bed, pick up Samantha from a friend's house, go to the grocery store and by the time I sat down again it was 9:30. I was tired. But you know what? This is my life. There's never a dull moment. So while I'm tired a lot of days I am going to continue to dance like there's no one watching, love like I've never been hurt, sing like no one is listening and live like it's heaven on earth :) Take care everyone!!

The Latest Craze
For the last couple of weeks the twins have been taking off their diapers regularly and bringing them to me and bringing me new ones when they were wet or dirty. I thought that they might be ready for potty training, but in the back of my mind I figured that they're just too young. Far be it from me to hold the children back on their success so I bought them each a potty chair this weekend. It's rare that the twins get anything new due to the massive amounts of hand me downs that were given to us so they were pretty excited to get something in a box. So, we opened the boxes and out came 2 pretty pink potty chairs. Oh the fun! They took them apart, they opened them, closed them, they stood on them and in them. They put their drinks in them (that was a more direct approach I thought) and then when Ashlyn was ready to go she chose to sit on the potty that didn't have the bowl in it and peed on the floor. Well, she had the right idea. So, I made sure the potty chairs were all in one piece and put them in a spot where they could get to them easily. Before I knew it, Ashlyn was pooping in the potty! What?! Surely it was a fluke and they wouldn't continue. Well, much to my surprise Mikayla continued the streak all night long and peed in the potty several times. If this is for real, then I am truly impressed with these 19 month old babies! I will attempt to keep this streak going and who knows? The girls might be out of diapers by the time they're 2! How about them apples?
On another topic, Samantha has returned home after being in Nebraska for 5 weeks. That is the longest any of my children have been away from me! She was able to hang out with my 5 sisters in Omaha and jump from house to house and get to hang out with her cousins in a non rushed way. Usually when we're in Nebraska everyhting is so rushed and we're trying to see everyone in a short time. At least this way Samantha was able to just hang out and get a feel for how they roll up there in Nebraska. I know she had a great time and enjoyed all the time she spent with the family. I'm glad she got to go, and I am really glad that she's back! I missed her a really lot! And so did everyone else. If you ever wonder what a person adds to your family go without them for a while and you will quickly learn. Samantha adds a lot of conversation and fun to the family. She doesn't like it when things are too quiet, she likes the live excitement and action of a full household. Well, she might have gotten some quiet, but I know she also brought some noise to a couple of households as well:) Yeah, that's my girl. So glad to have her home!

Weekend Chaos
I do not work on Fridays so I always have a 3 day weekend. Nice huh? It is nice most of the time. Sometimes I think it's just an extra day for the chaos to get started. With this past weekend being a long weekend for everyone I thought there might be an extra day to relax. Yes, I said relax. Why I thought this, I'm not real sure because I should just know better. So, the nice long weekend went something like this....
Friday one of my texas sisters and I decided to take all the kids to a local swimming pool. We have a community pool, but this would be something different for everyone and there's a play area for the twins, etc, etc. Well, we can't go anywhere without the twins napping so we have the morning to get a few things done around the house, get things together, get the twins down for a nap and get a move on. My task was tidying up my room and putting laundry away. No big deal except I realized about half way thru my task that I was gonna HAVE to shave my legs before we went to a public pool. Fine. Finish my task, jump in the shower, shave my legs and by the time I am out and dressed for the pool the peeps are all in my living room waiting on me. Ack!! Hurry up and pack drinks and snacks and towels and sunscreen and swim diapers and toys and lets get a move on. We won't be there long, but yes, we must pack everything we can! We got to the pool, the kids all had a blast including the twins who, when we go to the community pool, walk the perimeter of the pool rarely getting in. However they wanted to get all in the water this time. I was glad. They had an awesome time and I think they got sufficiently worn out. Yay moms :)
When we got home from the pool Sean was home and making a mopping sauce for some meat that he was smoking for the next day. Well, he couldn't stick around because he was going to ft worth to take part in the smoking of the meat. But the boys wanted to go to the movies and would therefore have to be picked up from the movies, but then, who will watch the twins? This is where my "sister's" girls came in. My sister and her husband had plans for the night so their girls stayed here and thankfully, while I was picking up the boys from the movie and the twins were asleep, the girls were able to listen for them. Day one of the weekend is over! Are you tired yet?! I sure was!!
Day 2 included Sean and I going to the lake with friends while the kids stayed home. Not to worry though! My mother in law was set to arrive late Saturday morning so that we could spend the day at the lake with all the kiddos being taken care of. Whew!! So, we were out on the lake all day not thinking about the kiddos and just kickin' back in the sun and water (with lots of sunscreen reapplications, thank you!) with friends. I gotta say, that was a very relaxing day! At the end of the day we were watching fireworks over the lake and while we were watching one of our friends' son proposed to his girlfriend. Awwww! Young love. Great day!
Day 3 we spent the morning and early afternoon recovering from the lake and doing our Sunday ritual of chillin' out and laundry. But wait, that wasn't all that was planned for Sunday. There was a family party to go out in bfe. Once again, we can't go anywhere without the twins napping. So after nap, gather everything we might possibly need plus lawn chairs, plus stop on the way and get some diapers and then we're prepared. Oh, this house had it all! These friends have some land so there were cows which the girls we completely fascinated by, there was a donkey and a dog and peacocks and a cat. What more could a kid ask for?! There was also a swing set and a pool and oh my goodness, it was almost too much fun! Everyone had a great time there, but we couldn't leave before the fireworks got done. Well, the girls liked the fireworks, but it was a process getting those all done. The boys enjoyed the fireworks and I was just wondering when we were going to be leaving. Bad attitude? Perhaps, but at this point we have spent about 5 hours keeping a very close eye on two little girls, being somewhat social, feeding the kids and ourselves and frankly, I was done. We left about 11 and got home about 11:45. That's only about 3 hours past the twins' bedtime. Great! They'll sleep in and so will I!
Or maybe not. The twins were up about 8 and so was Sean and I was up about 8:45. Woo hoo! Really?! Okay, well maybe they'll nap well. Or maybe they won't. An hour nap. Ugh! Well we hadn't really planned on doing anything Monday, but we ended up going to my "sister's" and hanging out and grilling and swimming and letting the kids wear themselves out once again. Wow dude! All I can say is, I'm really glad I don't work on Tuesdays either because I needed another day! And the twins decided that today was their day to catch up on sleep. They slept in til 9 AND took a 2 hour nap. I guess I will forgive their non sleeping ways from the previous day:)
I hope that you all had a fabulous weekend whether it was packed with busy days with friends and family or simply relaxing and being thankful that we live in a country where we have the freedom to do what we choose.
Until next time, I will be continuing to dance like there's no one watching, love like I've never been hurt, sing like there's nobody listening and live like it's heaven on earth :) Take care everyone!!

Just another day in paradise
I was awaken today by the twins talking to each other. Or, if nothing else, by one waking up the other. We got up and got some milk because I have a hard time focusing early in the morning therefore cooking was out of the question. This is all routine for them. We get up, have some milk, play for a bit while I have my caffeine and then I will make them some breakfast. This morning at one point they actually crawled up into their high chairs and were simply waiting for food. Wow! Guess they were hungry. They ate and then they were ready for more action. They decided that opening each of the drawers and doors in the kitchen was a good idea. I thought they were going to "cook" as they often do, but no, they just wanted to see how much stuff they could get out before I stopped them.
There is always a full day of chasing the twins, getting them what they need, keeping them out of what they don't and trying to explain to them why because of course, you can reason with an 18 month old, right? And let's not forget about the older kids. The day is also full of chasing them, getting them what they need and keeping them out of what they don't and trying to explain to them why because of course, you can reason a teenager, right? Lol.
I had someone at work tell me I was funny as I was telling stories about my children. They find me funny. That's great. I am telling true stories for I would not have the imagination to make up some of these things! Oh well. I'm glad there are people who can get some sense of amusement out of this life of mine.
Just for the record, I started this blog sometime late this morning and it's now 9:17 p.m. Yes, this is my life. I laugh a lot and I try to Dance like no one is watching, Love like I've never been hurt, Sing like no one is listening and Live like it's heaven on earth. Take care everyone!
