Remember the latest craze? Yeah, it's not going all that well. Um, either they have forgotten the excitement of going potty on the potty or I have forgotten how to train. I'm thinking it's the latter of the two. Nonetheless, I have gone through more diapers in the past few weeks than I care to. The girls pee in the diaper once and after they have peed they say "potty, potty" and so we get the diaper off them and they don't pee on the potty and they would rather run around naked. Well who wouldn't? So we think we'll just let them run around naked for a while or even with some panties on thinking they will tell us or go over to the potty when it's time. Or maybe, you'll just end up stepping in a puddle that one of them has left behind without ever hearing that magic word. "Potty". So, are we potty training? I would like to think that we are, but unfortunately, it's not going very well. I think I need to do some reading up and refresh my memory on what potty training is. I also think the twins should already be trained to but that's just because I think they're exceptionally brilliant. I guess I could be biased. And just to prove that my child is brilliant I have a story I'd like to tell....
Sunday is laundry day around here. It's not unusual to have several laundry baskets with dirty laundry in them. So, this past Sunday Ashlyn pulled all the laundry out of one of the baskets. She was already having naked time and I thought she was being silly in her playing. Not so silly was a couple minutes later when I heard both Ashlyn and Mikayla saying "eeewwww!". When I looked to see what they were saying "ew" to I saw that Ashlyn had pooped in the corner of the laundry basket. Doh! Yep, she's a smart one. Lol.
The teenagers in the house are keeping me on my toes. I have seen the front door of the mall more times than I care to count. I used to fill my summers by going to the swimming pool. What happened to those days? Well, I guess that would be fine if it wasn't over 100 degrees every day and the water wasn't like bath water. I even took all the kids to a city pool one day and figured we'd stay at least a couple of hours. We were a little more than an hour into our stay when the kids wanted to leave because it was too hot. Are you kidding me? We were surrounded by water and they were too hot to hang. Wow. I made them stay for a while anyway because the twins didn't care how hot it was and they were having a good time going down the slides:) It seems as though Ashlyn will be more of a daredevil than Mikayla. Once she figured out how to go down the slide and the path she needed to take to get there and whether or not there would be someone at the end to catch her she was all good. I love to see that excitement in their eyes when they've learned something new.
Samantha gets that excitement about music now. I remember that age and being excited to get a new cassette of your favorite artist. Or better yet, catching the song you like on the radio and having a blank cassette available to record. And then came the double cassette players so you could record from one to another. Oh look how far we have come! Samantha sat down last night and was all giddy because she had new music to add to her Ipod and Sean had recently added a bunch of music to his Itunes and she couldn't wait to put it on her Ipod. Oh, it's the little things. And if you see a happy teenager that's just a good moment altogether.
I asked Tristan the other day if he was ready for school. "No". He doesn't like school. He might not be ready for it, but I sure am. At least I won't get that look that says "I'm bored" anymore. Tristan gets excited about sports. He loves his baseball and is now learning to play golf. All good. Football comes with fall so he will be occupied and I love that!
I was the phone with my girlfriend the other night and then had to switch calls for another sort of emergency. I told my girlfriend I would call her back. A few hours later she texted me and said that must have been one looooong call. No, the call was short. However, I had to field phone calls, make dinner, give the twins a bath, put the twins in bed, pick up Samantha from a friend's house, go to the grocery store and by the time I sat down again it was 9:30. I was tired. But you know what? This is my life. There's never a dull moment. So while I'm tired a lot of days I am going to continue to dance like there's no one watching, love like I've never been hurt, sing like no one is listening and live like it's heaven on earth :) Take care everyone!!
